Heartbeat York celebrity book signing with Tricia Penrose

14.10.2008

HeartbeatWhen ITV drama producers set the story of a Cockney policeman and his young bride – a local GP – against the backdrop of the North Yorkshire Moors and stirring sounds from the 60s, they hit upon a winning formula. That was in April 1992 and 17 series later, Heartbeat is still one of ITV’s most enduring and popular dramas.

The series is inspired by the 'Constable' novels of Nicholas Rhea who was born in Glaisdale and joined the North Yorkshire Force as a beat bobby at Whitby in 1956. He tells The Heartbeat Story through the eyes of someone who has not only ‘lived it’ but has been involved with its production from the start.

HeartbeatIllustrated with original photographs and features about the North Yorks Moors with its stunning landscapes, historic towns and successful heritage railway, The Heartbeat Story brings back memories for everyone who loves the series and the decade of mini skirts, moon walks and... that music!

Those evocative sounds, a classic police motorcycle and one of the series’ most popular stars, Tricia Penrose, made York’s Coney Street swing on Saturday 11 October when WHSmith hosted the bookazine’s official launch and book signing.

Staff from WHSmith and publishers Mortons Media Group entered into the spirit of the occasion by dressing in 60s style and musicians from York’s Grand Opera House entertained the crowd which gathered to see the arrival of Tricia – new-mum Gina Bellamy in the series which started its 18th season on Sunday.

HeartbeatThe queue of fans waiting to have The Heartbeat Story signed by Tricia and author Nicholas Rhea stretched right through the store and the two were kept busy as more and more people joined in.

Many fans were keen to have their photos taken with Tricia and with her warm personality shining through it made a day to remember for everyone concerned.
