The Vintage Motorcycle Club Ltd
About Us
The Vintage Motor Cycle Club Limited was formed in 1946 by a band of 38 enthusiasts. Membership today stands at more than 16,500 – but this has been achieved without losing any of the camaraderie or helpfulness which is usually associated with smaller clubs. Don’t let the name fool you! Most of our members ride postwar classics.
Everyone is welcome regardless of the age, the make, the size or the country of origin of their machine. You do not have to own a historic motorcycle or three-wheeler in order to join the VMCC, just an interest in these machines. We cater for all levels and ages of enthusiasts and provide a wide range of benefits to meet individual member’s needs.
You are unlikely to be very far away from a local section and each section organises numerous events. You can get advice from us on almost any aspect of owning and running a classic motorcycle! Here are just some of the benefits that VMCC membership brings:
Sections
Eighty local andnon-territorial sections throughout the UK with a full programme of activities to suit all tastes. The non-territorial sections are Cyclemotor, Flat tank, Touring, Grasstrack & Speedway, Racing (British Historic Racing) and Sprint.

Retail Operation
The club’s retail operation goes under the name of ‘The Vintage Selection’ and comprises everything from T-shirts and books through to our specialist parts. These parts range from simple consumables like bulbs and oil through to unique services like being able to supply brake blocks and tyres for the oldest veteran machines.
The VMCCTransfer Service has one of the widest ranges and largest stocks of transfers (decals) for British, American, Japanese, Italian and other vintage and classic motorcycles from all over the world.
More than 250 new items have recently been added to our inventory, some of which were previously unobtainable, bringing the total number of transfers to over 2000.
Library
The Library was started in the 1960s. It was originally run as a service from the Librarian’s own home. In 1991 it was moved to Allen House. It is open to both members and non-members.
It is almost certainly the largest collection in the world and an invaluable source of information for motorcycle enthusiasts. The reference library contains more than 35,000 items on all aspects of motorcycling including books, programmes and drawings.
The material is held to help researchers but also to ensure that it is maintained for future generations to appreciate. Much of the material held is out of print and not generally available elsewhere.
We also hold the original factory dispatch records from many of the largest British manufacturers. TheVMCC is the largest DVLA recognised organisation when it comes to retaining your original registration number or gaining an age related one.
We have virtually complete sets, including advertisements, of Motorcycle, Motorcycling, Motorcyclist Review, Classic Motorcycle and various other titles.
We hold over 12,000 publications by manufacturers, which range from some what fanciful advertising claims to the essential technical detail contained within workshop manuals. With its full time professional librarian the library aims to answer all enquiries, whether made in person or received by post, telephone, fax, or email as accurately and as soon as possible.
We can help with all aspects of research and restoration of motorcycles from the earliest days right up to the present date. This includes providing wiring diagrams, addresses of specialist companies, identifying machines in old photos and helping with aspects of genealogy.
Part of our service is to be the first port of call for information. If we only have limited information on a subject, we aim to refer the enquirer on to the best alternative source.
